Give each assessment a start date, an end date, and a date its marks are due.

Why the dates matter

The marks-due date is the one with teeth. It is what decides when teachers are reminded about outstanding marks, and it is what the Marks Progress board counts against. An assessment with no marks-due date is never chased — which is also the way to switch reminders off for an assessment you do not want to chase.

The start and end dates say when the assessment actually runs. The exam timetable uses them: a sitting cannot be scheduled outside its assessment's window.

Steps

  1. Go to Dashboard → Assessment → Sets.
  2. Scroll to the Term windows card and pick the term.
  3. Press Edit.
  4. Fill in Starts, Ends and Marks due for each assessment. Typing an end date suggests a marks-due date from the grace days on the assessment's template — change it freely.
  5. Press Save dates.

What YoShule will and will not accept

  • An assessment must start and end inside its term.
  • Marks cannot be due before the assessment finishes.
  • Marks may be due after the term ends, up to three weeks. End-of-term marks are normally due during the holiday, because that is when reports go out.
  • Assessments may overlap. Continuous assessment running across a mid-term is normal and is not treated as a clash.

Leave the marks-due date blank on an assessment you do not want chased. Nothing is sent for it and it never appears as overdue.

What happens next

Once a marks-due date is set:

  • teachers are emailed about papers they still owe, starting two days before the deadline and continuing after it;
  • from the deadline onward they are also texted, if your school has turned staff SMS on;
  • the Dean of Studies receives a digest of who is behind;
  • the Marks Progress page shows every class, subject and paper with its status.

See Marks progress for the board itself.
