An academic term is the time window your enrollments, invoices, marks, and reports all hang off. You need one active term before staff can do real work.
Before you start
- You've finished basic school setup — see Configuring your school.
- You know the academic year and the term boundaries (start/end dates).
Auto-initiate (recommended)
- Go to Dashboard → Settings and find the Initialize Study Year card.
- Pick the academic year.
- Click Auto-initiate. YoShule creates the standard three-term layout with sensible defaults and activates the first term.
Custom term layout
- In Initialize Study Year, click Next Step to move to custom setup.
- Define each term — name, start date, end date, and whether it's the active one.
- Click Save & Initiate Year.
After initialization, the active term shows in the header and is what every finance/academic operation defaults to.
Switching the active term mid-day affects what every user sees. Schools typically switch terms during a break, not during class hours, so nobody is mid-task when the context changes.
